A breakthrough that redefines plant communication and preparation

Plant Primers represent one of the most disruptive innovations in agricultural biotechnology: systems capable of preparing plants before they face any environmental challenge. This anticipatory capacity is possible thanks to an unprecedented scientific breakthrough: Veganic has succeeded in decoding part of the biochemical language plants use to communicate, identifying the natural signals that trigger key internal physiological responses.

This knowledge has been translated into the NeoPrime® platform — the world’s first technology able to convert these plant signals into stable, reproducible formulations fully aligned with real plant physiology.

Anticipatory activation: how this new plant intelligence works

Plant Primers do not operate like traditional biosolutions. Instead of reacting to threats, they work before anything happens, modulating the plant’s internal routes to optimise its natural response capacity.

NeoPrime® adjusts physiological processes such as:
• hormonal sensitivity (jasmonic acid, salicylic acid, ethylene),
• expression of key enzymes associated with external cues,
• production of regulatory metabolites linked to resilience,
• cellular pathways involved in environmental perception.

This allows plants to react faster, more precisely and with greater metabolic stability.

NeoPrime®: the technology that decodes the plant biochemical language

NeoPrime® is the result of years of research in which Veganic has identified and isolated the natural metabolites that plants use to communicate with each other and with their environment. These signals — detected through metabolomics, transcriptomics and volatile compound analysis — act as “internal messages” that activate specific routes.

Veganic has been able to:
• identify biochemical patterns linked to plant responses,
• translate these signals into stable compounds,
• replicate their function in technical formulations,
• direct their action toward specific physiological processes.

This breakthrough means decoding the plant’s language and applying it in a controlled, precise way — without forcing artificial processes and fully respecting the plant’s natural biology.

A revealing parallel: cosmetic primers

In cosmetics, a primer prepares the skin to enhance the performance of subsequent treatments.

The same logic applies in agriculture: Plant Primers prepare plant tissues so that natural processes operate more efficiently when the environment presents a challenge.

They do not force responses or consume unnecessary energy. They simply ensure the plant is ready to react when needed — in a balanced and biologically coherent manner.

Key agronomic benefits

The use of Plant Primers delivers essential advantages in high-value crops such as vegetables, berries, grapes and fruit trees:

• faster reaction to environmental challenges
• greater physiological stability in critical stages
• zero residues and full compatibility with IPM
• reduced metabolic impact under variable conditions
• improved final quality and yield
• no cross-resistance risks

These characteristics make them a strategic tool for precision agriculture, regenerative agriculture and advanced production systems.

The Plant Primers within the Veganic portfolio

Veganic is the first company in the world to develop functional Plant Primers. Today, our portfolio includes three NeoPrime®-based references:

• PLUVIGEA® BOTUM
• PROTEGEA® SAVIX
• PROTEGEA® TELIX

Each one applies specific biochemical signals directed at concrete physiological routes, enabling highly precise plant preparation. Their integration positions Veganic as a global pioneer in physiological intelligence applied to crops.

A technology aligned with Veganic Food Care and regenerative agriculture

Plant Primers fit seamlessly into Veganic Food Care, the pillar that defines our commitment to producing safe, residue-free and traceable food, aligned with the standards of supermarkets, retail chains and final consumers — partners with whom Veganic works closely in the transition toward responsible production models.

As 100% plant-based, vegan and cruelty-free biosolutions, they respect natural plant biology, protect beneficial fauna and integrate effortlessly into ethical and sustainable agricultural systems. Their ability to activate anticipatory plant responses makes them essential tools for regenerative and high-precision agriculture.

They also enhance field ecological health by protecting soil microbiota, reducing dependency on chemical inputs and aligning naturally with advanced Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.

Within the Veganic Food Care framework, Plant Primers contribute to:

• Zero residues and maximum food safety standards
• Production aligned with retail and export requirements
• Full respect for biodiversity and beneficial fauna
• Conservation of soil microbiota and healthier ecosystems
• Reduced chemical impact and increased physiological efficiency
• Seamless integration into advanced, sustainable IPM programs

Plant Primers not only anticipate the plant’s physiological response — they elevate the entire agri-food chain, from the soil to supermarket shelves.

Epigenetic Priming: The Scientific Mechanism

The term plant priming — or more precisely, epigenetic priming — refers to a physiological state in which a plant has been pre-conditioned to respond faster and more efficiently to subsequent stress signals. The mechanism involves epigenetic modifications (DNA methylation, histone acetylation, chromatin remodelling) that keep stress-responsive genes in a transcriptionally accessible state without activating them prematurely.

This is fundamentally different from conventional chemical elicitors, which force an immediate and energetically costly defence response. Epigenetic priming maintains a stress memory at the molecular level — the plant has essentially learned to anticipate and respond to challenges it has previously encountered, or to which it has been deliberately sensitised through a priming agent.

In practical terms, primed plants show measurably faster stomatal closure under drought, faster deployment of antifungal compounds upon pathogen detection, and more efficient activation of the jasmonic acid and salicylic acid signalling cascades — all within hours rather than days. This response speed is what differentiates priming-based crop protection from both chemical and conventional biological approaches.
